So I put a new radio in my Taurus and everything works fantastic. I am in the process of getting my steering wheel controls back. I need to know what all of these "extra" wires go to. It came stock without sync so there wasn't much in terms of wires. I have the factory sub amp harness the main harness for the speakers but there is one more harness that I have no clue what it goes to. i also found out I lost my "mute upon back up beep" when my backup sensor beeps. So does anyone know what each wire does?

Do you happen to know what the illumination wire would be so the radio dims when the headlights come on?

That's what he means. I've looked and cannot find it on the diagrams mentioned above.

If it makes things easier, I'm looking for a 12v wire that is only live when the headlights are on. Somewhere behind the headlight switch maybe? I don't know. I would think that there would be a wire behind the radio for dimming it as the stock radio did dim when the headlights would come on. The dimmer wheel did nothing to the stock radio (from what I remember anyways) so I'm thinking there's a 12 volt wire that becomes live when the lights come on. I just don't know which one.

I pulled out the multimeter and went through what I have to work with. I just tapped into the fog lights lead considering I have them on at night all the time so it works.

Does it have an ashtray? Ashtray light? That's where I would tie in if all else fails.
You could always go through the wires with a multi-meter or a test light and find the wire that has power with the park lights on.

I went through all the wires and the only other wire that would work would be the wire from the dimmer. The radio doesn't like it much when I turn it down a bit though.

According to the schematic it shows to be a violet/gray wire coming out of the headlight switch assembly.
